Michael Stevens has been playing the violin since age 5, and has played in numerous ensembles including the Panama City POPS Orchestra in Panama City, Florida, the Omaha Area Youth Orchestra, the Omaha Conservatory of Music’s Winter Festival Orchestra, and most recently the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also played in chamber ensembles including a piano trio with fellow 402 instructor Evelyn Lindgren. In addition to his experience in classical music, Michael loves to improvise and has extensive experience playing in folk, bluegrass, and rock styles. Along with the violin, he also plays the guitar, drums, and has recently begun studying the pipe organ.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Michael is an experienced studio artist and designer. He has always loved to draw and began taking private art lessons at age 8. He went on to study painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, later transferring to the University of Nebraska Omaha where he studied graphic design. Alongside his teaching at the 402, Michael is now a full time graphic designer, creating logos, advertisements, and digital artwork for the Omaha community and beyond.
As both a musical and visual artist, Michael brings a wide variety of skills to the table as a teacher. He hopes that his students will gain an appreciation of all art forms through his instruction, whether by learning to draw, read music, or improvise to a bluegrass song.
