Music has been a part of Kat’s life for as long as she can remember.  Singing was where it first started, and when she picked up a pair of drumsticks at age 10 she was hooked.  In high school was when Kat started to realize that she wanted to pursue music as a career.  After living in Nebraska her whole life, she packed up her things and moved to California after high school to join The Young Americans, a music outreach and performing arts organization focused on keeping music in the schools.  In this group, she got the amazing opportunity to travel, perform, and teach in eight different countries.  She has traveled to Japan, Germany, Korea, Holland, Lithuania, Poland, Canada, and all over The United States spreading her love and passion for the arts.

While in The Young Americans, her passion expanded from performing to teaching.  After living out of a suitcase for a few years, she decided it was time to be back home.  Kat has since completed a Bachelor in K-12 Music Education and a Master of Adult Education and Leadership from Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska.  During her time as a student at Midland, she served as a leader in multiple areas including choir, a cappella, band, drumline, and theatre.  Upon completion of her Master’s degree, Kat is now a full-time staff member for the Midland University Arts Department.  She currently serves as Assistant Music Director, which she calls her “perfect job”.  At Midland, Kat will now be teaching private voice, as well as directing A cappella, Women’s Choir, Acoustic Performance, and Percussion Ensemble.

Kat’s ultimate goal is to spread her passion for music to her students.  She strives for her lessons to be student-centered, while working hard and having fun.  Versatility is important, so Kat strives to help her students gain confidence in all genres of music.  Kat is thrilled for this opportunity to teach at The 402, and is thankful for the wonderful music teachers she has had so that now she can pay it forward.
