Jared M. Smith Sr. started playing the flute in fourth grade, which was the catalyst to his lifelong
musical career. After hours and hours of practicing, he fell in love with the flute and began teaching himself how to play the piano, to record himself, so he could then play his flute to accompaniment.
During the years 2002-2004, he was 1st chair in the All-City Music Festival, as well as 1st chair in the UNO Durango Honor Band; he also received Superior ratings for solo flute at the Elkhorn Band Olympics. In 2003, Jared began private instruction under internationally renowned flautist and solo piccolo artist, Dr. Christine E. Beard, whom he is a current student of. In 2004, he competed in the Assemblies of God Fine Arts Music Festival in Austin, TX, receiving a Superior rating for Instrumental Solo I.
Jared enrolled in college at UNO to take his musical skills to the next level. He studied advanced music composition, was principal flautist for the Chamber Orchestra, participated in the UNO Marching Band and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, as well as UNO's Jazz Combo. He was featured on the Christmas album "Remember Christ" (2006), as well as the "Are You Ready" praise and worship album (2014), and he composes music and writes his own songs.
Currently Jared is married to Khadija, who was an art major from UNO, and together they have four sons and one daughter. He is completing a B.A. in Flute Performance, and is serving his fourth year as the Worship Leader at Royal Assembly of God. Foremost, his passion for music is overshadowed by his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the Author of his extraordinary flute tooting.
