He quickly became a marching percussion junkie practicing for hours on developing his rudimental skills. After graduating high school, he attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO, to study music education. Life put him on a different path toward marriage and a family, having him move to Omaha, NE in 1996. In 1999, and with the love and support of his wife, he stepped out on faith took his first job as percussion instructor for Omaha Northwest High School. From there, he went on to teach at Papillion La Vista and Papillion La Vista South and Thomas Jefferson in Council Bluffs, IA. During his years of teaching in various high schools, he realized that the students in the percussion section were lacking formal training and education, which drew his desire to teaching one-on-one and providing private lessons to those that wanted to learn.
Because of this passion he created Percussion Music. He wanted to create a program that would cater to the needs of today’s elementary, junior high school, and senior high school percussionist. A program that gives a special attention to the student that the band teacher couldn’t normally give and also make it affordable in the area of private lessons. His desire has always been: “ To enhance today’s percussionist with an understanding of their instrument and its limitations. To prepare each individual for any musical situation, at the same time promoting discipline, determination, and confidence.” Out of Percussion Music, the award winning Percussion Music Winter Drum line was formed, competing in the local winter arts circuit, Heartland Winter Arts Assoc. (WGI), as well as the international circuit, Winter Guard International (WGI).
Brendon’s passion for music is a consistent, driving force that leads him into teaching those that have that same desire to learn. While his passion is for music and drumming, he is equally passionate about his family, with his wife of 23 year, Cassandra and two children, BJ, of whom was his first student, and Jazmyn, who is involved in music as well. He is also involved with the worship and orchestra ministry at Westside Church where he and his family have been members for 10 years.
